| Position Overview: |
UMBC's University Communications and Marketing (UCM) team is hiring a Web Specialist to help maintain and improve one of higher education's most visited university websites. This is a hands-on role focused on day-to-day content management, digital request triage, and accessibility compliance for UMBC.edu and campus partner sites.
You will serve as the primary point of contact for routine content updates, work closely with a small, collaborative remote team, and help keep the university's digital ecosystem healthy and current. This role is a strong fit for someone who is detail-oriented, self-motivated, and experienced working independently in a fast-paced content environment.

| Responsibilities |
Content Management and Digital Operations (75%)
- Serve as the primary point of contact for routine content updates to UMBC.edu, ensuring changes are timely, accessible, and aligned with institutional priorities
- Provide Tier I triage for all digital team requests and help manage the team's weekly project board to ensure transparency, progress, and timely delivery
- Plan and implement routine content updates, including support for admissions and marketing campaigns, special initiatives, and university-wide announcements
- Receive design specifications, assets, and guidance from the Web Specialist/UX Designer for content implementation
- Support web accessibility compliance using monitoring tools including Monsido and Silktide, flagging issues and coordinating remediation efforts across both design and content layers
- Contribute to university-wide digital improvements including legacy site cleanup and archiving
- Proactively monitor key indicators of web health by tracking stale pages, documenting publishing patterns, and identifying digital debt across campus sites
- Coach UMBC content owners on improving clarity, hierarchy, and accessibility, helping them align local pages with the broader vision for UMBC.edu
- Work independently and take ownership of tasks and subtasks while maintaining clear, proactive communication with the team
- Provide feedback on design feasibility and maintainability from a content management perspective
- Ensure designs are properly implemented and can be maintained by website authors over time
UX Support (25%)
- Assist with user research activities such as usability testing, surveys, and stakeholder interviews
- Help gather and organize data from analytics dashboards to inform content decisions
- Support the creation and maintenance of design documentation and content inventories
- Participate in competitive and peer benchmarking efforts

| Required Minimum Qualifications: |
- Bachelor's degree prefereably in communications, digital media, information systems, or a related field.
- 2 years of experience in web management, digital communications, or a related role
- Demonstrated experience with WordPress or a comparable CMS for content management
- Basic familiarity with HTML/CSS and responsive web concepts
- Experience with accessibility tools and standards (WCAG)
- Strong writing and editing skills for the web
- Excellent attention to detail and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
- Strong self-motivation, time management, and communication skills

| Salary: |
Salary: $64,000 to $72,000 depending on qualifications and experience.
The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, budget, prior experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business considerations.
The above salary range represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
