Position Overview:

The Academic Program Specialist supports the creation and maintenance of the Fall and Spring Schedule of Classes.

Telework:

A hybrid telework schedule may be available. 

Responsibilities:

The Academic Program Specialist supports the creation and maintenance of the Fall and Spring Schedule of Classes. 

The incumbent: 

  • Responds to requests from departmental scheduling coordinators regarding changes to class meeting patterns, modes of instruction, instructors, enrollment capacity, etc and enters changes Peoplesoft Student Administration.
  • Reviews and makes classroom assignments and room change requests in 25Live and Peoplesoft.
  • Schedules final exams and other academic events such as review or study sessions.
  • Meets with new scheduling coordinators to provide training in building and maintaining classes in Peoplesoft.
  • Assists with reviewing reports related to the class schedule for data quality assurance and addressing issues.
  • Serves on the Registrar's Office customer service schedule providing phone or front office coverage up to 8 hours per week.
  • Assists with special projects and other tasks related to class scheduling such as building combined sections in Peoplesoft, adding new instructors to the system and testing scheduling functionality in the system during quarterly upgrades.
Required Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree
  • One year experience in administrative staff work.

Note: Additional related experience and formal education in which one has gained the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for full performance of the work may be substituted for the education or experience on a year-for-year basis with 30 college credits being equivalent to one year of experience. 

Preferred Qualifications: 
  • Experience in which entering and maintaining data, responding to help requests, attention to detail and customer service were key responsibilities.
  • Experience working in a higher education environment preferred. Experience with class or event scheduling in Peoplesoft, 25Live or similar systems preferred.

Salary:

Pay Range 09 (minimum: $22.44 per hour / maximum: $29.68 per hour) based on the University System of Maryland (USM) Pay Program.

The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, Memorandum of Understanding, USM Board of Regent policies, internal equity, budget and qualifications and experience. Most salary offers will be close to the minimum part of the range.

The above salary range represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
