Responsibilities:

The UMBC Department of Human Resources and Strategic Talent Management (HRSTM) has an opportunity for a temporary position working 24-40 hours per week assisting with education verification and criminal background checks. The ideal candidate will have an investigative instinct, an eye for detail and the ability to track data from multiple sources.

Position will work approximately 24-40 hours per week. Position is Monday to Friday during core business hours. A flexible schedule is available. A hybrid work schedule may be available after training.
Position is temporary/Contingent I with an initial contract of six months with the possibility of renewal.


Responsibilities:

  • Reviewing background check orders to verify position and type of check needed.
  • Ordering background checks and tracking results.
    Reviewing results and raising checks to next level of authority for any further reviews.
  • Uploading records to files and maintaining all documentation and record keeping.
  • Tracking completion and clearance of verification and checks for all needed employees.
  • Creating reports to leadership on number of checks completed, outstanding checks, costs, etc.
  • Serving as the primary point of contact to provide assistance to employees and answer general inquires via phone and email.
  • Entering data into spreadsheets and other systems.
  • Assisting the Background Check Specialist with the overall background check processes.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.
Required Minimum Qualifications:
  • Previous human resources or related administrative experience
  • Exceptional attention to detail
  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to track data from multiple sources.
  • Must have ability to maintain strict confidentiality.
  • Strong computer skills and knowledge of MS Excel, Google Sheets, etc.

Note: Additional related experience in which one has gained the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for full performance of the work may be substituted for the education or experience requirement on a year-for-year basis with 30 college credits being equivalent to one year of experience.

Preferred Qualifications: 
  • Bachelor's degree strongly preferred.
  • Previous experience in human resources, preferably in Talent Acquisition.
  • Experience in ordering and processing criminal background checks.
  • Knowledge of PeopleSoft.

A background check will be required.

Salary:

Hourly Salary Range: Minimum: $22.90 to Maximum: $29.68, commensurate with qualifications and experience. 

The above salary range represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
