Widener University is currently seeking an Assistant Director, Student Inclusion and Belonging. Reporting to the Associate Dean, this role provides overall support and serves as a resource in the Office of Student Inclusion and Belonging . This role includes programming diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging (DEIB) related activities, events and workshops for Widener University students.  Specifically, this position supports our LGBTQIA+ student community, plans and facilitates DEIB related workshops and collaborates with the staff in managing the signature events and special programs.

This position requires a high volume of interaction with Widener University faculty, staff, students, and individuals from diverse and under-represented populations. Individuals applying for this position should have demonstrated success in managing DEIB related programs.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (including, but not limited to):

Essential duties:

  • Serves as a resource and provides support for the LGBTQIA+ student community at Widener University (approximately 50% of duties)
  • Plans and facilitates LGBTQIA+ related workshops and special programs in the Lambda house learning community and across campus.
  • Serves as an advisor to the undergraduate LGBTQIA+ student organization.
  • Collaborates with staff and campus partners to develop, promote and facilitate DEIB programming. 
  • Ability to communicate with and form effective working relationships with individuals across lines of gender, race, ethnicity, religion, disability, and sexual orientation.
  • Ability to handle multiple daily tasks while assisting the Director in establishing vision, goals and objectives.
  • Maintain campus groups and social media accounts.
  • Assist with the publicity and promotion of the programs, events and activities 
  • Represent the office at campus recruitment events
  • Facilitate diversity related workshops for First-Year Seminars and undergraduate student leaders as requested
  • Cultivate student leadership
  • Directly supervises student employees.

Secondary responsibilities:

  • Serve on university committees as requested or assigned.
  • Support and assist with other duties as assigned

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (education/training and experience required):

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree required in Student Personnel, Higher Education Administration or related field; combined with three+ years of professional experience in relevant area of Student Affairs;
  • Minimum of two years of professional experience in diversity programming and workshop facilitation both in person and online;
  • Understanding of student development;
  • Strong interest in and appreciation of diversity, equity and inclusion and evidence of two to five years of working effectively with internal and external individuals from diverse backgrounds;
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize and work in partnership with students, parents, faculty and staff from diverse backgrounds
  • Strong administrative and supervisory skills in addition to excellent time management and strong written and oral communication skills are required.
  • Professionalism, flexibility; demonstrates good judgment and maintains confidentiality related to all student, faculty and staff records
  • Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office, survey and publishing software, website content management and social media
  • Experience with LGBTQIA programming

Preferred:

  • Master’s degree in Higher Education Administration, Student Affairs or related field
  • 5+ years professional experience in relevant area of Student Affairs

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND/OR UNUSUAL HOURS: 

  • This is a 12-month position that will include some evenings and weekends.
  • This position is an in-person position during the academic year but may have some flexibility for hybrid work during non-academic periods.
