Budget Director

Position Summary:

The University of Wisconsin-Platteville is seeking applicants for a position as Budget Director. This position is responsible for providing effective leadership and direction for all policies, practices and procedures related to the development and management of the University’s strategic, capital, and operational budgets, and related financial forecasts and planning. The Budget Director is a liaison with the University of Wisconsin System as well as a strategic partner with various campus leaders such as the Provost, Vice Chancellor, divisional leaders, and deans.  This position oversees the compilation, analysis and dissemination of complex budget information and reports that provide decision support for the university’s leadership team. 

This is a full-time, benefit and paid leave eligible position. Salary for this role is $107,000 - $115,000 commensurate with skills and experience. 

Responsibilities:

  • Direct the development and administration of the institutional budget and large multi-unit budget projects including budget planning, reporting, policies, controls, procedures, forecasts, and analysis.
  • Provide budget management oversight and strategic direction for the institution.
  • Direct strategic budget planning initiatives and establishes institutional budget objectives to ensure appropriate use of financial, administrative, and staffing resources and alignment with the strategic plan in collaboration with institutional leadership.
  • Schedule logistics and secure resources to control the allocation of all institutional funds.
  • Serve as the institutional budget liaison to internal and external stakeholder groups providing organizational information and representing the interests of the institution.
  • Exercise supervisory authority, including hiring, transferring, suspending, promoting, managing conduct and performance, discharging, assigning, rewarding, disciplining, and/or approving hours worked of at least 2.0 full-time equivalent employees.
  • Provide business services in multiple financial functional areas and manage budget professionals on complex, high-profile projects spanning across multiple institutional units to support accurate, actionable budgeting and efficient use of financial resources.
  • Develop, implement, and interpret policies and control the allocation of institutional funds to support the efficient use of funds across the institution.

What You’ll Need to Succeed:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in business, finance, accounting or related field OR minimum 5 years’ experience in budgetary/financial leadership role.
  • 5 years’ experience in budget and policy development, management, and analysis in a complex environment.
  • Experience with a financial and budgeting system.
  • Experience in the development of comprehensive, integrated budgeting and reporting.
  • Experience establishing and maintaining professional working relationships with individuals at all organizational levels.
  • Demonstrated ability to coordinate effectively and communicate verbally, interpersonally and in writing with senior-level administrators.
  • Ability to manage several activities and projects at a given time.
