University of Wisconsin-Platteville is a seeking Controller to manage the Financial Services department and contribute as a leader within the Division of Administration and Finance.   

The Controller is responsible for providing management and oversight of the financial services of the University through the administration and coordination of diverse financial systems and activities. This position has primary responsibility for fiscal compliance, university-wide financial success and the development and enforcement of financial policies. The Controller is responsible for directing the financial operations of the University which includes internal control, banking operations, cash management, credit card management, financial systems, capital inventory, grant accounting, financial reporting, accounts payable and receivable, and purchasing. In addition, the Controller performs financial analyses and reporting for internal and external constituents. The Controller works closely with campus constituents to keep them apprised of policies and procedures.

The Controller also participates as a leader within the Division of Administration and Finance, university-wide groups and committees, and UW System groups and projects.  The Controller works effectively with students, faculty, staff, and others to advance UW-Platteville’s mission and goals.

Direct reports to the Controller include the Associate Controller (overseeing the Bursar’s Office and UW-Platteville Foundation Accounting), Grant Accountant (overseeing Accounts Payable), and GL Financial Specialist. The Controller also liaises with the Office of Research and Sponsored Programs, UW-Shared Services Office of Procurement, and UW Regional Travel Management Services.

The Controller represents the institution on finance-related administrative matters, establishes and maintains a consultative and collaborative working relationship with institutional units, and guides the development of strategy, processes, and policies to ensure the accuracy and compliance in the institution's accounting functions.

This is a full time, benefit and paid leave eligible position. Salary for this position starts at $115,000 commensurate with education and experience.


 What You’ll Need to Succeed:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related business administration field from an accredited institution.
  • Five years of accounting management experience.
  • Experience supervising professional accounting, finance and business staff.
  • Knowledge of, and experience with, Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Experience with complex integrated financial systems and software such as PeopleSoft, Banner, Workday or others.
  • Demonstrably effective communication and analytical skills.
  • Commitment to customer service.
