Librarian - Resource Management and Data Services

Position Summary: 

The Karrmann Library at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville is seeking applicants for a Resource Management and Data Services Librarian. The librarian will work with a team of librarians and instructional designers to maintain services of an academic library at an undergraduate institution. This role will require working with a networked system of libraries and the campus information technology services to maintain and troubleshoot the technical resources and systems of the Library and Southwest Wisconsin Room Archives. The Resource Management and Data services librarian will have roles in providing reference and instructional support. As a member of a small team of librarians, there will be opportunities to contribute to all parts and day-to-day functions of library services.

This is a full time benefit, and paid leave eligible position with a salary range of $47,000 - $55,000 per year, commensurate with experience.

Responsibilities:

  • Creates processes and maintains complex metadata records for the purposes of resource discovery, access, and inventory control by following local and national cataloging and metadata standards and exercising independent judgement.
  • Assists in the analysis, planning, and deployment of resources to search, manipulate, and preserve information.
  • Contributes to the development of policies and procedures.
  • Assists with the coordination of day-to-day functions of one or more library operations or services.
  • Performs acquisition processes, including bibliographic searching, vendor assignments, determination of holdings, and choice of entry and database record format.
  • Identifies and evaluates preservation and curation needs of items and determines preservation solutions.
  • Assists with provisioning of access to and discovery of electronic resources, coordinates online access, and troubleshoots issues to provide library patrons with consistent access.
  • Serves as a resource to other librarians and staff both within and outside of their work unit on a regular basis.
  • Serves on committees to advance librarianship at the campus, local, and/or state levels.
  • May direct the day-to-day activities of student workers.

  • A Master’s degree in Library Science (MLS) or Library and Information Science (MLIS) from an American Library Association accredited institution.
    • Candidates on track to complete their degree by August 30, 2025, are encouraged to apply.

  • Proven ability to thrive in a collaborative, team-oriented environment
  • Demonstrated capacity to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Interest or experience in various facets of library science
  • Solid problem-solving abilities and excellent organizational skills
