The Education for Inclusive Environments Program is launching its first cohort of teacher residents in the fall of 2024 in collaboration with Everett Public Schools. The program is a 7-quarter program, inclusive of summers, where candidates graduate with a dual endorsement in Special Education and Elementary Education or Special Education. Their final 3 quarters are spent in the schools working side-by-side with a mentor teacher(s).

About the Position Woodring College of Education invites individuals with cross-cultural experience and commitment to social justice and educational equity to apply for appointment in the Department of Education Leadership and Inclusive Teaching Department.

This is a full-time, 10-month, non-tenure track faculty position that is coordinated with the teacher residency school partner’s calendar. The position has an anticipated begin date of January 2025, with the potential for the position to be renewed (10-month contract is August-June). It is primarily a supervisory/coaching position in the Education for Inclusive Environments Inclusive Education Teacher Residency Program . The faculty reports to the Department Chair of Education Leadership and Inclusive Teacher and collaborates with the Directors of the Teacher Education Outreach Program and the Director of the Office of Field Experience. Travel between the Education for Inclusive Environments Teacher Residency Program in Everett and school sites in Snohomish County is required. We are seeking to fill two positions. 

Faculty will be working as a mentor/supervisor/coach for dual endorsed special education/Elementary Education teacher residents and Special Education teacher residents in the final year of their residency and will serve as a mentor during their first year as an in-service teacher. Currently, this position will primarily be housed within the Everett School District. The faculty will work directly with Everett School District employees and administrators and serve as a liaison to the Woodring College of Education.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Design and deliver timely in-service professional development for mentors and residents
  • Facilitate successful implementation of Co-teaching strategies in residency partner schools and classrooms
  • Be available to support back to school initiatives in the local school district and work on school district academic schedule
  • Provide feedback and support to residents
  • Collaborate with teacher mentors in support of teacher residents
  • Serve as a liaison between building administration, EIE-TRP directors and mentor teachers
  • Provide post-graduation mentoring for teacher residents
  • Conduct regular meetings and trainings for teacher residents
  • Provide feedback/coaching for teacher residents
  • Support the development of the mentor/Resident relationships
  • Support the implementation of requirements in the EIE-TRP handbook
  • Complete and file paperwork for teacher residents with OFE
  • Assist with selection and interview process of teacher residents
  • Assist with the development and articulation of gradual assumption of responsibilities during the residency year.
  • In the first year of employment, supervise practica students and assist with the creation of handbooks and materials for residency implementation
  • Collaborate and coordinate with other residency coaches.
  • Participate in weekly team meetings with the Academic Program Directors and EIE-TRP team members
  • Schedule and support regular meetings with teacher residents
  • Collaborate with the program director in the recruitment of prospective student residents
Required Qualifications
  • Masters degree in Education or closely related area
  • Experience in Special Education
  • Previous teaching and/or administrative experience in P-12 schools
  • Demonstrated commitment and skills to work with diverse students, colleagues, staff and communities
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and partnership skills
  • Experience with mentoring/supervision or related leadership
Preferred Qualifications
  • Terminal degree in education or related field
  • Experience in co-teaching
  • Experience working in teacher residency
  • Previous experience in designing and delivering professional development
  • Certification or previous certification in both elementary and special education

Salary

Salary range: $65,000-$75,000, commensurate with experience and qualifications. (Range listed is for 10-month position.) Additional salary dependent upon teaching assignments during summer and/or academic year.
