About the Position This position is responsible for journey-level inspection, troubleshooting, diagnoses, service, and major and minor mechanical repair on all types of equipment and vehicles used by Facilities Management and Western Washington University. This includes over 200 university fleet vehicles and the repair and maintenance to diesel generators attached to buildings as backup power supplies. The work performed by this position ensures equipment, vehicles and generators are functionally safe and continue to operate at manufacturer specifications. This work includes advising preventative maintenance and repair schedules, operating shop equipment and making recommendations for upgrades/replacements, processing work orders, requisitioning materials and utilizing and documenting inventory.
Required Qualifications
  • High school graduation or possession of a GED Certificate
  • Four years of journey-level experience performing preventive maintenance and repairs on vehicles newer than 1995
  • Two years of journey-level experience in performing preventive maintenance and repairs on diesel-powered heavy equipment, motorized outdoor equipment, and/or large, stationary, diesel-powered generators
  • Experience performing preventive maintenance and repairs on alternative fuel vehicles
  • Valid driver’s license or the ability to obtain one prior to employment
  • Fleet Motor Vehicle Emission Testing Certification or the ability to complete training and certification within one year of hire
  • Familiarity and ability to operate electronic diagnostic equipment to perform duties
  • Familiarity and ability to operate all power/air tools to perform duties
  • Familiarity and ability to operate hand tools to perform duties
  • Familiarity and ability to operate single and double post hydraulic lifts for vehicle maintenance
  • Demonstrated experience with various computer programs: Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel), email applications, and internet browsers
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing including ability to clearly communicate complex mechanical repair needs to management, users, and operators
  • Ability to use tact, discretion, and courtesy in interpersonal interactions with students, staff, faculty, and the general public
  • Ability to manage time effectively and work under pressure
  • Ability to work independently
  • Ability to work well with diverse populations
  • Physically perform essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodation
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience using computer applications for routing of work orders
  • Experience mounting and balancing tires
  • Experience with vehicle and equipment parts inventory

Salary  $5,219 - $6,047/month depending on qualifications and experience
