About the Position This position is expected to work in an independent manner as a fully qualified electrician and within small teams, to perform skilled installation, maintenance, and repair work on low voltage electrical equipment and systems of 750 volts or less. During shutdowns and maintenance, this position will be required to assist with high voltage electrical equipment and systems of 12,470 volts or less. The incumbent will take direction from shop lead and supervisor and relate well with a variety of people, including students, faculty, and staff. This position must be able to perform electrical functions to include maintaining and renovating the university facilities.
Required Qualifications • Demonstrated experience reading and interpreting blueprints (detail sketches), plans, and building specifications in order to determine where wiring is and/or needs to be installed. Ability to produce detailed sketches and specifications.

• Demonstrated experience working in sensitive situations such as operational offices, classrooms, dorm rooms, rest rooms, etc.

• High school graduation diploma or graduation equivalency diploma (GED) certificate.

• Valid EL01 Washington State Electrical License.

• One year of related experience in a commercial or institutional setting.

• Valid driver’s license or the ability to obtain one prior to starting work in order to drive a state-owned vehicle to work locations.

• Possess a strong knowledge of applicable electrical codes and regulations such as: Washington Administrative Code (WAC) regulations and local building, mechanical and NEC electrical codes.

• Physically perform essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodation.

• Ability to perform daily work tasks independently under limited supervision.

• Possess technical accuracy and recordkeeping skills.

• Ability to work with computer hardware, including touch screen tablet, and software required to track work orders and record time worked.

• Possess strong interpersonal skills and ability to work in a friendly and cooperative manner with students, staff, and faculty at all levels of the organization and in contacts with the public.

• Possess strong communication skills including both written and verbal.

• Ability to manage time well and work under pressure situations with tight schedules and deadlines to complete projects.

• Effectively read and understand written information and instructions.

Preferred Qualifications • Perform accurate material take-off, help with estimating projects, and assist in field design work (shop drawings).

• Ability to solve problems and work independently.

• Meet schedules and deadlines while staying within the estimated costs.

• Possess a strong knowledge of Washington Industrial Safety and Health Act (WISHA), Occupational Safety and Health Agency (OSHA) rules and regulations, standard job safety rules, and proper use of a face respirator.

• Possess a good working knowledge of or formal training in several related skill fields including plumbing, sheet metal, welding, pipe fitting, pipe insulating, hazard material (asbestos abatement), building controls, signage, and painting obtained in an institutional, commercial, or industrial environment.

Salary 

$6,018 - $6,809/month depending on qualifications and experience.
