About the Position

The Advance Practice Clinician provides ambulatory health care service delivery at the WWU Student Health Center, as directed by the Student Health Center Director. This is a permanent full-time 9 month position.

Job Duties/Responsibilities by percentage of time:

65% - Diagnosis and treatment of acute and chronic medical and mental health illnesses including those elements of primary medical care that are reasonable within the constraints of the nature, funding, and calendar of operations of the WWU Student Health Center. This includes developing treatment plans based on scientific rationale, standards of care, evidence-based practice, and professional guidelines.  The Advance Practice Clinician also provides a holistic approach to patient care, including providing patient education as appropriate.

10% - Perform general health and pre-participation physical examinations.

5% - Perform minor surgical procedures and provide casting/splinting services within one’s scope of practice.

5% - Provide after-hours call coverage on a rotation with 3-4 other providers.

5% - Provide prompt evaluation and institute appropriate plan of care for emergencies including stabilization of patient prior to transport to the emergency room.

4% - Assist in providing coverage of clinic responsibilities as requested by the Student Health Center Director.

2% - Coordinate and follow-up with medical referrals in the community as necessary.

1% - Participate in University activities as requested by the Student Health Center Director.

1% - Provide in-service training and consultation for nurses and other staff in Counseling, Health, and Wellness Services as necessary to promote professional growth, improve their skills and perform their duties.

1% - Assist in the WWU Student Health Center Quality Improvement Program.

1% - Other duties may be assigned and mutually agreed upon as needed.

Required Qualifications
  • FNP, DNP or ARNP certification with master’s or doctoral degree (MSN, MN, DNP) or Graduate of a Physician Assistant Program accepted by the State of Washington for licensing with certification by the National Commission on Certification for Physician Assistants (NCCPA)
  • Demonstrated ability and sensitivity in working effectively with people with diverse backgrounds and perspectives
  • Demonstrated effectiveness as a communicator, with excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal skills, including conflict resolution
  • Experience assessing, diagnosing, treating mental health disorders within the scope of the family practice care model.
  • Three or more years' experience in practicing primary care medicine in an ambulatory care setting
  • Current or eligible for Washington State License
  • Licensure remains in good standing with maintenance of continuing education requirements
  • Current DEA certification for prescription and controlled substances without restrictions
  • Current BCLS certification
  • Ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with diverse populations, including students, faculty, administrative leadership, and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to work successfully with and support a diverse staff, and a strong commitment to creating an inclusive environment for staff and students.
  • A strong commitment to creating a culturally responsive environment for staff and students, the delivery of programs that support diversity objectives, and the development of cultural engagement and responsiveness skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working in a University or College Health Clinic setting.
  • Experience working in an Urgent Care Clinic setting.
  • Experience providing gender affirming care within the scope of the family practice care model.
  • Computer proficiency in Microsoft suite of products.
  • Proficiency with Point and Click EMR
  • Ability to provide effective leadership in support of student learning, development, retention, and recruitment with awareness and sensitivity to the needs of diverse student populations.
  • Record of commitment to advancing access, diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts in higher education and/or the workplace setting.
  • Experience delivering services to students/individuals/communities who hold marginalized identities, such as Latine and Black students, disabled students, and/or LGBTQ+ students.
Conditions of Employment
  • Successful FIT testing and the ability to wear a N95 mask for several hours.
  • Maintains tetanus, pertussis, influenza & COVID vaccinations.
  • Proof of measles, mumps, rubella, hep B & varicella immunity.

Salary  $83,852 - $$96,430.  Through longevity this position tops out at $109,008 (9 months)
