About the Position The move-in parking attendant will assist in the management of parking as the campus welcomes approximately 4,300 students to the residence halls and apartment communities. Staff will be assigned to one of the three main check-in areas located on north, south, and the ridge regions of campus during the move-in experience. We are seeking candidates who are interested in working the University Residences move-in event.

This includes a minimum of one full training day (8am-5pm) and a maximum of four full days (8am-5pm) during opening, which will take place September 19, 2024 - September 22, 2024. Availability during all four move-in days is preferred. Six positions are available. This position reports to Transportation Services on Western’s campus.

Move-in parking attendants must demonstrate the ability to work with diverse populations.

Lasting no more than five (5) days total from September 18-22, 2024, the move-in parking attendant is responsible for assisting in the management of parking areas throughout the move-in process.

Responsibilities include:

  • Serve as a greeter for students, parents, and families at the check-in tent locations
  • Manage lines of cars and provide guidance to students, families, and visitors for the next phase of the check-in process
  • Direct cars to long term parking lots from check-in tent locations
  • Provide directions to specific residence hall and apartment locations
  • Provide recommendations for changes to the move-in process based on experience
  • Contact golf cart volunteers when a student, parent, or family member requests transportation from long term parking to the residence halls
  • Other duties as assigned that relate to the parking process for move-in

Multiple positions (6) are available and will be located on the Western Washington University move-in location areas (north campus, south campus, ridge).

The State HR classification for this position is Event Attendant/Usher.

Required Qualifications
  • Availability for a minimum of one training day and four (4) move-in days from September 18-22, 2024 from 8am-5pm.
  • Commitment to equity and inclusion to enhance the welcoming experience for students and their families.
  • Ability to lead and provide direction for administrative processes.
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time.
  • Experience in customer service
Preferred Qualifications
  • Availability for one training day and two or more move-in days from September 18-22, 2024 from 8am-5pm
  • Availability on weekend days (September 21-22, 2024)
  • Previous experience in on campus housing at a college or university

Bargaining Unit Temporary This position is covered by a Washington Federation of State Employees bargaining union. New employees are eligible for membership under the current collective bargaining agreement at 350 hours of employment.
