The Natural Resources Access Regulator (NRAR) is currently seeking to appoint Field Officers to plan and conduct field inspections. Hybrid working arrangements are available and office base location is negotiable, where possible. This position offers an opportunity to learn about water regulation and the compliance activities of NRAR.  

About the team and project

You will be joining an established team that have varied backgrounds in regulation, environmental studies and stakeholder engagement. The team operates from a range of geographical locations across NSW and travel accordingly to support each other in achieving the teams goals in Regulatory Initiatives. Current project work includes undertaking desktop and field-based compliance assessments of water take in line with the non-urban metering requirements across NSW. Additionally, the team is working on a small proactive compliance program looking at water availability risk in the NSW Murray-Darling Basin. The team may also take on some other small projects within the contract period. 

About the role

Reporting to the Program Lead, you will undertake field property inspections and contribute to other compliance activities together with customer education to support the achievement of regulatory objectives. You will provide accurate information and general guidance to landholders, use IT systems to create and maintain records of compliance activities, interpret and ensure correct application of Legislation, policies and procedures.

About you

You have good organisation skills and experience with Microsoft Office applications. You will be able to work well in a geographically dispersed team, needing to work collaboratively over digital platforms and self-manage assigned tasks. You will be able to conduct field inspections (travel) approximately 1 week out of 4 in the month. You will be able to work with databases and records that are used for project tracking and reporting. You will have good written and oral communications skills. Previous experience in natural resources, environmental, or development regulation/investigation is desirable, but not essential for the Field Officer role.

Essential Requirements

  • Appointment is subject to the satisfactory participation in mandatory pre-employment probity screening
  • Commitment and willingness to undertake high levels of travel to remote areas and safely undertake field work requirements of the role.
  • Current Australian Driver Licence
