About the role
The Lord Howe Island Board is seeking a Senior Electrical Officer to maintain, operate, and regulate the island's hybrid powerhouse plant and equipment in line with Lord Howe Island Board and government regulations. The role involves ensuring the efficient operation and regulatory compliance of the renewable energy generation systems, managing both high and low voltage distribution to provide a reliable electrical supply to customers. It emphasizes customer and staff safety by prioritizing safety protocols and responding to hazards. Responsibilities include preparing and monitoring operational documentation for compliance, managing the powerhouse budget effectively, and ensuring adherence to the LHIB’s Electrical Network Safety Management System and Local Electrical Service Rules.
About you
To be successful in the role, you will need to have experience in operating with significant autonomy to ensure a consistent and reliable electrical supply, including making decisions on daily issues such as plant repairs and routine upgrades to maintain power infrastructure. In addition, you should be able to make rapid decisions to address power supply disturbances, ensuring prompt restoration of power, especially to critical infrastructure such as the hospital and airport, to safeguard community well-being.

- UEPOPS116 Operate local HV switchgear
- UEPOPS124 Perform switching to a switching program
- UETDRSB001 Perform substation switching operations to a given schedule
- Class C Driver’s license

About us
Lord Howe Island is located in the South Pacific Ocean approximately 700km north east of Sydney and is part of NSW. The Island has a high proportion of rare and endemic birds, plants, and invertebrates, and has the southernmost coral reef in the world. Three-quarters of the Island is within the Permanent Park Preserve, which is managed similarly to a national park. There are approximately 445 residents and tourism is the major industry and source of income on the Island. Approximately 16,000 people visit the Island each year and there are 21 accommodation lodges.
The Lord Howe Island Board (the Board) is a statutory authority established under the provisions of the Lord Howe Island Act. The Board is responsible to the NSW Minister for the Environment and comprises four Islanders elected by the local community and three members appointed by the Minister. It is charged with the care, control and management of the Island and the affairs and trade of the Island. It is also responsible for the care, improvement and welfare of the Island and residents. “Island” as defined by the Act includes Lord Howe Island and all adjacent islands and coral reefs within one marine league of the Island. Ball’s Pyramid and adjacent islands are also included in this definition.
