  • Casual role located in beautiful Narooma or Merimbula
  • Interpretive Assistant scale - hourly rate of between $37.76 - $39.12 depending on skills and experience + applicable casual loading.

                                                                                                   

About the role

This is an Aboriginal Identified role where Aboriginal identity, cultural knowledge or connections are a genuine aspect of the role. Positions are specifically noted under the provisions of the NSW Anti-discrimination Act (1977).

National Parks and Wildlife Service has a unique opportunity for a Discovery Guide (Tour Guide) Identified to work as part of the team and contribute towards the conservation of the natural environment, flora, fauna and Aboriginal heritage.

Discovery Guide will implement diverse activities and learning experiences for visitors across various locations to foster community awareness, appreciation and understanding for conserving the state’s natural and cultural heritage. This role will focus on practical experience in interpretive and educational guiding or in delivering training or classroom experiences.

 

About you

Your strong communication skills are paramount to the success of this role. You will be delivering programs to different stakeholders and will need to be able to think on your feet to respond to various questions and situations. Self-management is important for this role as there may be times you will be working alone and will need to ensure safety is a priority meeting the required Work Health Safety standards. Your experience in teaching and education will be highly valued. Demonstrated passion for geography and science, the Australian environment and awareness of NPWS values.

 

Essential requirements

  • This is an Identified role under Section 14d of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977 and as such Aboriginality is an essential requirement of the role.
  • Aboriginal identified positions are developed where Aboriginal identity, cultural knowledge or connections are a genuine aspect of the role. Positions are specifically noted under the provisions of the NSW Anti-discrimination Act (1977) for Aboriginal people who meet the following criteria:
    • is of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent, and
    • identifies as an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person, and
    • is accepted as a such by the Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander community.
  • Sensitivity to and understanding of Aboriginal Culture and an excellent understanding of Aboriginal community governance and structures.
  • Current Working with Children check
  • Senior First Aid certificate.
