Our Aboriginal Land Strategy team are seeking a Senior Policy & Project Officer to lead change and contribute expertise in this supportive team. The role will lead and coordinate efforts to deliver reform policies and projects related to Crown Lands’ work with Community in native title, land rights, and land management in NSW.

The role

As a Senior Policy and Project Officer Native Title role, you'll provide strategic policy advice and lead complex research to shape Native Title policies and projects. You'll coordinate with various stakeholders, preparing briefings and analysis to keep everyone informed and engaged.

 

One of the key challenges of this role will be navigating sensitive issues that arise in Native Title discussions and ensuring that the advice you provide addresses these complexities while supporting government objectives. To foster positive outcomes for Native Title claimants and holders, you will have demonstrated experience in managing competing priorities and relationships.

Key knowledge and experience

  • Detailed knowledge and expertise in both operational and strategic policy development, implementation and review and ability to understand and interpret a wide variety of legislation and legislative and policy processes.
  • Sound knowledge and understanding of the Native Title Act 1993 and its application in practice.

 

What you will bring to the role

  • Strong analytical skills to conduct in-depth research and assess the impact of Native Title policies and regulations.
  • Ability to prepare comprehensive briefings and reports that effectively communicate complex information to diverse audiences.
  • Proven experience in managing multiple projects simultaneously while ensuring timely delivery and quality outcomes.
  • Capacity to navigate culturally sensitive issues with respect and understanding, fostering inclusive discussions.
  • Proficient in stakeholder engagement, building and maintaining relationships with government agencies, Indigenous groups, and community members.
  • Demonstrated ability to facilitate negotiations and discussions, driving consensus among various stakeholders.
  • Commitment to ongoing learning and knowledge of policy development and implementation.
