  • Salary relative to experience, and ranges from $134,445 to $148,168 + super (pro-rata)

 

The team leader cultural science position is being job-shared for a period of two-years. The role co-leads of a small team undertaking cultural science projects. The Cultural Science team conducts research into enabling Aboriginal people and cultural wisdom into environmental programs. You will be co-leading a team researching in the areas of climate change, fire management, Aboriginal heritage and cultural monitoring. We are seeking an Aboriginal person who is driven to co-manage a program focused on understanding the challenges and finding solutions to realising Aboriginal cultural outcomes in environmental management and planning (caring for Country)

About You

To be successful in the role you will need high level knowledge and experience in providing

cultural and scientific advice and project management. You will also need to

demonstrate cultural and scientific communication skills. A key aspect of the role is supporting and growing Aboriginal cultural science staff.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Working closely with the other part-time job-share team leader (also 3 days per week)
  • Supporting project management of the cultural science program
  • Managing Aboriginal staff
  • Coordinating delivery of Cultural Science research outputs

 

This is an Aboriginal Identified role where Aboriginal identity, cultural knowledge or connections are a genuine aspect of the role. Positions are specifically noted under the provisions of the NSW Anti-discrimination Act (1977).

 

Essential Requirements

  • Tertiary qualifications or comparable experience with applying Aboriginal culture in land or water landscape management or planning
  • This is an identified role under Section 14d of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977 and as such Aboriginality is an essential requirement of the role. Aboriginal identified positions are developed where Aboriginal identity, cultural knowledge or connections are a genuine aspect of the role. Positions are specifically noted under the provisions of the NSW Anti-discrimination Act (1977) for Aboriginal people who meet the following criteria:
    • is of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent, and
    • identifies as an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person, and
    • is accepted as such by the Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander community.
  • Current NSW Driver’s license
  • Willingness to travel (including regional and city-based travel), including willingness to stay overnight in non-established camps in remote areas
  • Demonstrated experience working with Aboriginal people, government organisations and communities with the ability to communicate across cultures
