About the Team

The Sustainable Homes Implementation team has an exciting opportunity available to work primarily on the Social Housing Energy Performance Initiative (SHEPI) program.

SHEPI is currently a $175 million program co-funded by the NSW and Commonwealth Governments, working with the social housing sector to provide energy efficient upgrades including solar panels and solar sharing systems, split system air conditioning, heat pump hot water heating, ceiling insulation, and electric stoves to approximately 24,000 social housing properties by June 2027. In addition, we are working through details of a SHEPI expansion with the Commonwealth Government, who announced an additional $145.3 million program for a further 13,500 households to be upgraded by June 2029.

SHEPI is a dynamic program working with a range of partners including Commonwealth DCCEEW, Homes NSW Housing Portfolio, Aboriginal Housing Office, CHIA, Community Housing Providers and Aboriginal Community Housing Providers to reach these ambitious targets. Part of SHEPI is an innovation program designed to expand and complement the broader program’s impact by piloting innovative solutions, developing robust data collection and evaluation methodologies, and supporting tenant empowerment and sustainable behaviour change in conjunction with upgrades.

The team is also responsible for Action 22 of the Consumer Energy Strategy: Fund community outreach programs to provide practical energy information and tips directly to energy consumers.
