The role

In this role, you’ll lead a small, agile team to keep the department’s network infrastructure running smoothly across NSW. You’ll be the go-to person for coordinating support, managing change, and solving problems—whether it’s responding to incidents, improving systems, or working with vendors to deliver smart, secure solutions. Your work ensures that the digital backbone of the department stays strong and responsive. You will be supporting the network manager and cohesively working with the larger network team and stakeholders outside of the network team.

You’ll juggle multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment, balancing day-to-day support with long-term improvements. With a focus on collaboration, clear communication, and technical know-how, you’ll help shape how network services are delivered—making a real impact on how teams connect, work, and serve the community.

What you will bring to the role

  • Proven experience in a similar position, leading a team within a large complex network environment across multiple sites
  • You will be a proactive leader adept at managing project and initiatives to support stakeholders networking requirements.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, to effectively convey ideas and collaborate with team members and stakeholders.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities to navigate complex challenges and adapt to evolving situations. 
  • You will have detailed and current knowledge of Data Centre Technologies with skills in infrastructure cabling.
  • You will have experience with Cisco routed networks, Cisco switching, Meraki switching and Wi-Fi, and other major technologies.
  • Knowledge of network products offered by telecommunications providers and their application in a large organisation.
  • Knowledge of ITIL framework and popular network products offered by telecommunications providers and their application in a large organisation.
  • Knowledge of the government procurement process

What is an essential requirement:

  • Relevant experience or tertiary qualification in computer science or related field and/or recognised industry certifications for networking technologies
  • The incumbent must be willing and able to work on-call, weekend and after hours.
