Working to protect the state’s environment and heritage.

About the role

The National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) has a unique opportunity to use your extensive digital skills to lead the delivery of new functionality for park closures and visitor safety on web, mobile and other channels.

This role is based in the small NPWS Digital Unit, a vibrant team of talented developers, producers and spatial and data specialists. We develop and support a range of national park digital services, including one of the NSW Government’s most popular websites (nationalparks.nsw.gov.au). We work to develop innovative, user-centred digital experiences that support environmental programs and visitor experiences for millions of people each year.

We work in an agile environment, including test-driven development, CI/CD and frequent releases to design and build fast, stable software and get it to customers quickly. Key software platforms and tools include Sitecore CMS, Smartsheet, MS Teams, Figma, Power BI, Google Analytics, Firebase, ArcGIS, FME and Geocortex. We manage our work through Azure DevOps, and use a range of other Azure services for application development and delivery.

In this role, you’ll be managing and coordinating the development, implementation and evaluation of new functionality for public communication of park closures and safety alerts. You will make sure projects are completed within required deadlines, quality standards and budget expectations, to support the delivery of data platforms and great digital services for park visitors.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will have the following:

  • Experience in digital project delivery, including user research, requirements development, UX design, functional testing, release management and analytics.
  • Strong project management experience in an agile setting.
  • Great communication and collaboration skills, and experience in vendor and contract management.

Essential Requirements

  • Appropriate tertiary qualifications or demonstrated equivalent, relevant professional experience.
  • Project management skills and experience with an understanding of contemporary best practice in procurement, tendering and contract preparation, in managing project teams, consultants and contractors, and in applying environmental safety and risk management policies and systems.
  • Demonstrated experience in developing, implementing and reviewing strategic plans, policies and programs, and in providing strategic and operational advice and recommendations to senior management.
