- Salary relative to experience, and ranges from $145,378.00 to $168,130.00 + super
The Water Group is currently seeking to appoint a Principal Policy Officer (Grade 11/12) to drive NSW’s work and contributions to the Murray-Darling Basin Authority’s review of the Basin Plan in 2026.

About You
In this role, you will be responsible for:
- establishing program management arrangements and managing the NSW Basin Plan Review program
- identifying key policy issues, providing expert policy advice and maintaining awareness of emergent issues
- fostering strong links across Water Group, relevant NSW Government agencies and interjurisdictional partners
- developing NSW positions on key issues
- reviewing and coordinating input into technical reports and policy papers and communicating outcomes to internal stakeholders
- preparing briefings and reports to support collaboration and effective and informed decision making
- evaluating strategies to seek leverage and influence negotiations with the Murray-Darling Basin Authority and other state and federal government agencies to ensure outcomes in accordance with identified government outcomes.
To be successful in the role, you will need to be comfortable working autonomously and in a fast paced and dynamic environment. You will need to be an effective communicator with a proven ability to establish and maintain productive working relationships across government and be able to manage competing deadlines and tight timeframes.
Knowledge of and/or experience working on Basin Plan matters whilst not essential, is highly desirable.
