The role  

The Advanced Manufacturing Readiness Facility (AMRF) is seeking a dedicated and experienced Design Engineer to contribute to the future of advanced manufacturing in NSW. In this role, you will apply your expertise in mechanical design, CAD modelling, and manufacturing processes to develop innovative engineering solutions for diverse projects and stakeholders. Working closely with the Lead Engineer, you will design sophisticated mechanical components and systems utilizing cutting-edge manufacturing technologies including subtractive, additive, and composite manufacturing processes. 

As a Design Engineer, you will create detailed mechanical designs from concept through to production-ready solutions, conducting feasibility studies and evaluating technical viability through analytical methods and simulation tools. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand design requirements and manufacturability constraints, ensuring successful translation from concept to reality.  

Your role will involve hands-on participation in prototype fabrication, testing, and validation, providing technical support to troubleshoot design issues and implement improvements based on performance feedback. Additionally, you will maintain comprehensive design documentation and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives within the AMRF's best practices framework.

What you will bring to the role 

  • Ability to activate and establish the AMRF as a globally recognized manufacturing development facility. 

  • Proficiency in 3D design and simulation software. 

  • Good understanding of various manufacturing processes including milling, turning, 3D printing, and composite manufacturing  

  • Understanding of Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA) principles  

  • Ability to balance design complexity with manufacturability constraints while meeting project deadlines  

  • Good understanding of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) and creation of technical drawing as per AS1100  

  • Excellent teamwork and communication skills to effectively convey design intent across diverse technical disciplines  

  • Demonstrated problem-solving capabilities and commitment to self-directed learning

What is an essential requirement: 

  • Tertiary qualifications in engineering, industrial design, or related disciplines, or demonstrated, equivalent, relevant professional experience and training. 

  • Ability to be onsite at AMRF 4 days per week
