Associate Director, Investment Taskforce

  • DCCEEW Expression of Interest only
  • Secondment to The Investment Delivery Authority (IDA)
  • Temp Fulltime (up to 12 months) Sydney Based
  • Clerk Grade 11/12

Investment Delivery Authority (IDA) has been established to facilitate major projects ($1 billion plus) from the private sector and identify reforms to boost competition and productivity in NSW.  It will identify barriers that are unnecessarily delaying major investment projects, while proactively advising on broader options for system-wide reform. The IDA will be supported by a multi-agency Investment Taskforce located within Investment NSW in the Premier’s Department.

Investment Taskforce

The Investment Taskforce will be responsible for providing whole-of government advice to the IDA and coordinate delivery support agreed for successful proponents. Lifting productivity in NSW requires the support of, and a concerted effort by, a range of NSW public sector agencies.

The multi-agency Investment Taskforce supports the IDA by:

• coordinating whole-of-government advice to the IDA on investment proposals.

• providing ongoing case management to successful proponents, and

• facilitating planning and non-planning support agreed by the Treasurer, Minister for Planning and Public Spaces and Minister for Industry and Trade.

Primary purpose of the role:

The Associate Director, Investment Taskforce, manages referrals for a designated Agency within the Investment Taskforce to make sure agency advice and decisions for large investment proposals are timely, coordinated and pragmatic. The overarching objective of the Taskforce function is to collaborate with colleagues to provide an urgent, coordinated and customer-focused approach in the delivery of major investment projects.

Agency Representatives allocated to the Investment Taskforce will primarily perform a case management role – this will involve triaging, co-ordinating and case management of agency input into IDA expressions of interest to provide a timely and coordinated approach in the delivery of major investment projects.

The Agency Representative will need a sound knowledge and understanding of their home agency.

Key Challenges

  • Dealing with complex and sensitive issues to ensure effective stakeholder engagement and case management functions in tight timeframes.

• Developing collaborative working relationships and an effective network of both internal and external stakeholders to ensure genuine and productive relationships and partnerships and proactive problem solving.

• Coordinating multi-agency input for state agency referral and working through conflict to produce rational development outcomes.

• Manage and analyse highly complex and sensitive issues to provide considered and strategic advice to develop workable evidence-based solutions often in a contested environment and where there is incomplete information.

Key knowledge and experience

• Demonstrated ability to collaborate and negotiate with others and apply a pragmatic mindset to solving problems.

• Sound knowledge and understanding of home agency, including key accountabilities, to ensure streamlined agency referrals.

Essential requirements

• Tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline (such as business, law, economics, business management, public administration planning, environmental management, engineering, project management) or equivalent relevant experience.
