  • Compliance and Regulation Officer (Environment Officer Class 8)
  • 1 x Temporary (3 July 2026) full-time (35 hours per week) opportunity
  • 1 x Temporary (12 December 2025) part-time (14 hours per week) opportunity
  • Greater Sydney location preferred - Office location is Parramatta
  • Hybrid working supported
  • Salary relative to experience, and ranges from $115,817 to $130,667 + super

 

 

The Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water Greater Sydney Compliance and Regulation Team seeks experienced Investigators to join our Team.  These roles are pivotal to the protection of environmental assets in New South Wales including native vegetation, protected flora and fauna, and Aboriginal cultural heritage.

As a Compliance and Regulation Officer, you will contribute to the development and implementation of robust and credible regulatory practice consistent with organisational policies, practice and statutory frameworks.

 

Your day-to-day duties will include:

  • Engaging with internal and external stakeholders
  • Managing competing priorities
  • Gathering evidence
  • Desktop assessments including spatial assessment and analysis
  • Undertaking site inspections
  • Working with experts in the field and in the office
  • Conducting recorded interviews with suspects and witnesses
  • Drafting and issuing statutory notices
  • Provision of evidence-based advice
  • Record keeping

 

About You

To be successful in this role, you will:

  • Demonstrate the values and behaviours that contribute to a constructive, high-performance culture
  • Ensure timely, proportionate and consistent outcomes aligned with statutory requirements
  • Demonstrate experience working in a team as part of a coordinated statewide cohort
  • Demonstrate knowledge of contemporary operational and strategic requirements for undertaking complex compliance programs, audits and investigations
  • Demonstrate knowledge of and experience in implementing compliance and regulation in a government or non-government setting.

Essential requirements

  • Degree in a relevant discipline or equivalent experience.
  • Hold ISO 19011 auditor certification or similar or have capacity to obtain such certification within 3 months of commencement in this role.
  • Current NSW Class C Drivers Licence.
  • Criminal History Check given the regulatory and compliance activities conducted.

 

Highly regarded knowledge and experience

  • Investigation experience
  • Certificate IV Government Investigations
  • Experience working with Local Government and the public
  • Experience working in public service
  • Strong verbal and Plain English writing skills
  • Experience with Microsoft suite and corporate software
  • Attention to detail and methodical
  • Experience dealing with conflict and contentious issues
  • Stakeholder engagement experience
  • Experience interpreting and applying statutory instruments
  • Environmental management experience
  • GIS/Spatial skills
