The Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment & Water (DCCEEW) are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Senior Financial Accountants to join our finance team and play a critical role in delivering accurate and timely financial reporting for the business.
About the role
As the Senior Financial Accountant, you will play a key role in ensuring our financial reporting is accurate, consistent, and meets all compliance requirements. You will be responsible for preparing and reviewing statutory financial statements, coordinating monthly financial reporting to Treasury, and ensuring all documentation is audit-ready to ensure the Department meets its reporting obligations. You will utilise your strong technical expertise to drive improvements in financial systems and processes bringing structure and efficiency to a complex, fast-paced environment.
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys both the technical and collaborative aspects of accounting. You will work closely with finance teams, auditors, and a broad range of stakeholders across the Department’s diverse network of agencies where the ability to balance standardised processes with the need for flexibility will be essential to your success.
We are looking for someone who can work independently, manage multiple priorities, and communicate clearly with both finance and non-finance teams. Please note, additional hours and occasional weekend work may be required during peak reporting periods.
About you
To be successful in this role, you will have experience preparing complex financial statements, navigating accounting standards, and working confidently with auditors.
You will bring:
- Proven expertise in statutory financial reporting within a government or large, complex organisation
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, to convey complex financial information to varied audiences
- Strong leadership and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to foster productive relationships across departments
- The ability to work independently, take initiative, and keep leadership informed on progress
- A flexible, solutions-focused mindset with strong problem-solving skills
- Exceptional time management and organisational skills, with the ability to juggle competing priorities and meet deadlines
- A high level of attention to detail, even under pressure or during high-volume workloads
- A collaborative, team-oriented approach and the ability to work across a shared services model
- Experience in the public sector is desirable
Essential Requirement
- Degree Qualification in Accounting, Commerce or similar discipline and studying towards CPA/CA (or equivalent) full member status, or extensive equivalent experience
