  • Temporary part-time role available till 30 June 2026
  • Package includes salary depending on experience from $36,668.00 - $71,777.00 – based on full-time equivalent, plus employer's contribution to superannuation
  • Located in Byron Bay 

 

About the role

NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service has the opportunity for Visitor Service Assistants to work as part of the team and contribute towards the conservation of the Byron Bay area.

As a Visitor Service Assistant, you will be responsible for greeting and directing visitors to Parks, educating them on Park values, promoting a positive visitor experience and ensuring compliance with Park rules. On a typical day you will be:

  • Providing information and advice to visitors on facilities, services and activities available.
  • Performing Park compliance patrol duties.
  • Collecting Park use fees fostering appreciation and enjoyment by visitors of park values.
  • Promoting Park activities.

 

Applicants will need to be available to work weekends, public holidays and school holidays.

 

About You

To be successful in the role, you will have:

  • Experience acting independently on matters relating to the entry of visitors to the national park where supervisors are not readily available.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain a high level of vigilance and awareness of personal safety when conducting parking patrol and law enforcement activities and when handling and securing sums of cash
  • Exercising excellent customer service and negotiation skills as well as sound people and diplomatic skills to deal effectively with cultural differences or limited English skills.

 

Essential requirements

• Good oral communication, and customer service skills with experience dealing with customer inquiries and the ability to manage such inquiries in a manner that addresses customer’s concerns.

• Capacity and willingness to undertake enforcement duties associated with the park use fee system and Departmental / NPWS Regulations, with an ability to work unsupervised and adapt to competing priorities

• Basic computer skills and the ability to operate a two-way radio.

• This role also requires a current manual driver’s licence. The holder of this role will be required to wear an NPWS uniform. This role may also involve regular evening and weekend work. This is a shift-based position, under the Crown Employees (Public Service) 

Note:  Parts of these duties are performed outside of normal operating times.
