About the opportunity

 

Our EnergyCo NSW Policy and Projects Branch is currently seeking to appoint multiple Senior Project and Policy Officers. These roles will develop innovative policy that streamlines the transition to a clean energy future and delivers strategic initiatives critical to realising the ambitious objectives of the NSW Government Electricity Infrastructure Roadmap and EnergyCo’s role to coordinate NSW’s five declared Renewable Energy Zones and other major network infrastructure projects. These roles will engage widely across EnergyCo, NSW Government agencies and other key stakeholders to help deliver a fit-for-purpose policy and legislative framework to deliver the energy transition in NSW. Key responsibilities of these roles include:

  • Leading and providing high impact strategic policy advice, producing high-quality briefs and advice to inform Executive and Ministerial decisions.
  • Taking responsibility for the development and delivery of priority projects, legislative reforms, policy proposals, policy papers, Cabinet Submissions and requests for policy input and advice on a range of Government priorities.
  • Engaging with key stakeholders and subject matter experts, ensuring EnergyCo’s policy positions and projects are effective, innovative, and fit for purpose.
  • Contributions to a collaborative and supportive team culture, embodying Departmental and EnergyCo values of integrity, service, accountability, trust, collaboration, and courage.

 

The Policy & Projects Branch drives EnergyCo’s policy development, regulatory processes, and strategic advice for Cabinet, the Minister and the EnergyCo Executive Team, Board and Chief Executive. This includes analysing and recommending options to respond to emerging risks, new opportunities, and the best path forward to achieve major strategic milestones. The Branch delivers EnergyCo's Cabinet strategy to secure its mandate from Government and EnergyCo's regulatory reform agenda to enable functions and projects to be delivered under the Electricity Infrastructure Investment Act and national electricity framework.

 

About You

 

We are looking for candidates with a strong background in policy analysis and development, capable of proactively identifying issues and delivering innovative solutions to complex challenges. Ideally you will have:

  • Experience in energy sector and/or government, or through a market body.
  • Demonstrated experience in taking a proactive approach to policy formation and the ability to engage effectively with diverse stakeholders, at all levels, to achieve strategic outcomes.
  • An ability to identify issues and manage multiple interdependencies and workstreams concurrently to deliver high quality, evidence-based policy and project outcomes that align with organisational values and objectives.
  • A strong understanding of government decision making, governance, administrative, and policy development requirements and processes.
  • A demonstrated ability to operate with a high level of autonomy in respect to day-to-day activities, including determining and delivering on work priorities within the context of an agreed work plan.
  • Proven ability to collaborate with, engage and influence internal and external stakeholders effectively to deliver on organisational priorities and objectives.
  • An understanding of regulation and legislation reform processes, including Cabinet and Parliamentary processes
  • Adaptability to pivot and reprioritise work tasks appropriately to ensure priority team, Branch and EnergyCo objectives are met, whilst operating in a high volume and evolving work environment.

 

Essential Requirements

 

  • Degree in a relevant discipline or equivalent experience

Who we are?

 

The Energy Corporation of NSW (EnergyCo) is a statutory corporation established under the Energy and Utilities Administration Act 1987 and governed by its Board, appointed by the Minister for Energy.  EnergyCo is a Staff Agency employing all EnergyCo staff and is an agency related to the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water (DCCEEW).

 

The Energy Corporation of NSW plays a pivotal role in the NSW Government’s Electricity Infrastructure Roadmap, which aims to transform the state’s electricity system into one that is cheap, clean, and reliable. As Infrastructure Planner under the Electricity Infrastructure Investment Act 2020, EnergyCo is responsible for leading the delivery of the State’s first five Renewable Energy Zones (REZs) and the first two priority transmission infrastructure projects (PTIPs), which are located in the Central-West Orana, New England, South West, Hunter-Central Coast, and Illawarra regions. We work closely with communities, investors, and industry to investigate, plan, recommend and coordinate generation, storage and network infrastructure projects.

 

We acknowledge the ongoing custodial responsibilities of the Aboriginal peoples of NSW to care for Country and water and are committed to establishing meaningful partnerships with Aboriginal peoples in the management of the environment.
