The Australian Botanic Garden Mount Annan is a scientific hub and showcases Australian flora amongst 416 hectares of rolling hills, lakes, lawns and gardens.


The role
Our busy Natural Areas and Open Spaces team are currently seeking a Horticultural Labourer. In this role, you'll help with the conservation, maintenance, and regeneration of turf and natural areas at the Botanic Gardens. You’ll be hands-on, working on horticultural displays, operating and maintaining equipment, and assisting with weed control.

You’ll also ensure the safe use of garden machinery, following health and safety procedures to keep staff and visitors safe while making sure the natural beauty of the Gardens is preserved.

What you will bring to the role

  • Hands-on experience in turf maintenance, including turf regeneration and display management.
  • AQF3 qualification (or willingness to obtain) and confidence in applying chemicals safely with the proper PPE.
  • Familiarity with operating and maintaining turf machinery and equipment, including tractor driving and spraying (ideal but not essential).
  • A solid understanding of occupational health and safety practices and a demonstrated ability to follow OH&S policies.
  • Self-motivated, adaptable, and able to work well both independently and as part of a team.
  • Commitment to maintaining turf areas in line with Botanic Garden policies and procedures.



What is an essential requirement:

  • Current driver’s licence with the ability to drive manual vehicles and willingness to undertake fieldwork for extended periods of time and have the ability to lift and carry a minimum 15 kilos.
  • Ability to work outside of normal working hours and on weekends if required.
