We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Legal Officer to join our Public Spaces and Parklands legal team within DPHI. Be part of a team that plays a crucial role in supporting our clients to create and care for iconic public places and parklands. These special places include Sydney’s iconic harbourside locations, Botanic Gardens of Sydney, Greater Sydney Parklands, Sydney Olympic Park and region-shaping projects across the Hunter and Central Coast. Our work is pivotal in shaping and preserving public spaces and parklands and strengthening the connection with the people that share them.

 

 

About this role:

  • Provide high-quality legal advice on a wide range of property, commercial and advisory law matters
  • Draft, review, and advise on complex leases and licences for unique venues – a combination of major ground leases, and commercial and retail leases, as well as an array of events and activations from small scale community events to some of the city’s biggest and most popular events such as New Year’s Eve and Vivid
  • Conduct in-depth research on complex legal issues, offering innovative solutions to drive positive outcomes
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to ensure successful negotiations and project delivery
  • Stay ahead of legal developments, sharing knowledge and best practices with the team and department

What you will bring to the role:

  • Expertise in one property law and/or commercial law
  • Strong ability to manage complex legal projects with competing priorities and tight deadlines.
  • Excellent drafting and negotiation skills, with experience in providing high-level legal advice
  • A proactive approach to problem-solving and the ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams
  • Knowledge of legislative processes and experience in supporting policy and legal reform initiatives
  • Enthusiasm and shared vision for providing thriving places for communities and visitors

 

What is an essential requirement:

Admitted or qualified for admission as a Solicitor or Barrister in the Supreme Court of NSW and hold, or be eligible to hold, a NSW Practising Certificate.
