Are you interested in broadening your experience in environmental impact assessment to work on a wide range of projects across NSW? Do you want to help shape innovation in new technologies, sustainable industries, facilitate new projects in the Aerotropolis and meet targets for net zero emissions? We are looking for planning, science, engineering or environmental management professionals.

 

The Senior Environmental Assessment Officer must deliver high quality, efficient and timely assessment advice to ensure State significant projects meet all statutory obligations and Government goals. The role is responsible for ensuring the environmental management framework for large, complex projects in NSW are best practice to meet Government goals for a more robust and efficient state planning system, that protects and enhances our urban and natural environment.

 

About the role

Be a key player in major development projects that will shape the future of Sydney and NSW. Our dynamic team is responsible for assessing some of the broadest ranging and interesting development applications in the State.

Projects include developments within the Western Sydney Aerotropolis, hydrogen, clean fuel and industrial projects, data centres, circular economy, net zero emission initiatives, new and high-tech industries, agriculture, aquaculture and new projects in identified Strategic precincts in Regional NSW.

 

In this role you will

  • Deal with projects across metropolitan Sydney, Regional NSW and coastal waters of the State
  • Help facilitate innovative industries and new technology projects
  • Establish and maintain professional working relationships with other key agencies such as the EPA, TfNSW, Sydney Water, Bradfield Development Authority, local Councils and Regional NSW
  • Respond to new initiatives in net zero emissions, sustainable technologies and innovation such as in energy production, food growing and waste management
  • Assess and provide recommendations on a broad range of projects managed by the team
  • Assist with new policy and legislative initiatives relevant to the role.

What you will bring to the role

  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, to effectively convey ideas and collaborate with team members. 
  • Strong problem-solving abilities to navigate complex challenges and adapt to evolving situations. 
  • Demonstrated flexibility and adaptability to thrive in a fast-paced and dynamic work environment. 
  • Strong teamwork and collaboration skills, with a willingness to contribute to group efforts and support colleagues in achieving objectives as you work collaboratively within the assessment team to deliver State significant projects.
  • Outstanding stakeholder engagement skills, fostering strong relationships and ensuring alignment with diverse stakeholders to achieve outcomes. 
  • The ability to identify, critically analyse and evaluate key issues, recommend innovative options, solutions, practices and processes in the form of written reports, briefings and conditions of consent to enable timely determinations of applications
  • Demonstrated knowledge of relevant environmental and planning legislation and its practical application.

 Key knowledge and experience

  • Proven knowledge of relevant environmental assessment and planning legislation and its practical application, experience in the field of environmental impact assessment stakeholder engagement and project management
  • Proven ability to critically analyse and evaluate key issues, recommend innovative options or solutions and communicate this effectively.

Essential requirements

  • Degree in environmental science or management, law, engineering, planning or other relevant discipline
  • Willingness to travel and (minimum) Class C Driver’s License
