- Salary relative to experience ranges from $146,822 to $170,981 + superannuation and annual leave loading
We are looking for a driven and experienced Principal Legal Officer to join the energy legislation and advice practice at DCCEEW. The successful candidate will play a critical role in supporting DCCEEW's work in driving the sustainable transition to a net zero economy powered by affordable, reliable and clean energy. This is an opportunity for a motivated senior lawyer to join a high-performing team in leading priority law reform for the State at a critical and highly exciting time in NSW’s transition to renewable energy.
About the role
The role will involve providing specialist energy law advice to DCCEEW. The successful candidate will play a critical leadership role, including supporting executive leaders to drive the vision and direction of the legal team, supervising and mentoring team members and contributing to an inclusive and collegiate team culture.
About You
We would be thrilled to receive applications from passionate lawyers with expertise and experience in one or more of the following areas of law:

- Legislative reform
- Commercial law
We are particularly interested in candidates with energy market expertise and a robust understanding of NSW Government and administrative law. Strong communication skills, stakeholder management experience, independence and versatility will be valued.
To be successful in this role you will be a highly motivated and experienced legal professional dedicated to delivering high quality legal advice and services to clients. You will have strong communication and stakeholder management experience, with the ability to lead complex and sensitive projects and deliver strategic solutions.
Undertaking and working independently on a wide range of tasks with often tight or competing timeframes, our Principal Legal Officers require excellent organisational and prioritisation skills as well as the capability to lead, manage and support junior lawyers. You will have excellent verbal and written communication skills to prepare and deliver clear, authoritative, practical and solution focussed advice. You will have the confidence and ability to build strong, collaborative relationships with a variety of stakeholders and team members.

Essential Requirements
- Admitted or qualified for admission as a Solicitor or Barrister in the Supreme Court of NSW and hold, or be eligible to hold, an unrestricted NSW Practicing Certificate
