Our media team is currently seeking to appoint a Senior Advisor Media on an ongoing basis at Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water (DCCEEW).
About the role
As a Senior Advisor you will play a crucial role in leading and delivering reactive and proactive media strategies and effective communications to support and promote the work of DCCEEW.
You will be part of a dynamic and successful media team, including the Media Manager and Senior Media Advisors. The team is part of a wider Communications and Engagement Branch.
About You
As a Senior Advisor Media, you will be instrumental in liaising with media outlets and collaborating with internal stakeholders to protect and enhance the DCCEEW brand. You will prepare various media materials, including releases, responses, event briefs, pitches, speeches, talking points, social media content, and newsletter articles.
Working in a high-pressure, confidential environment, you will handle emerging, complex, and contentious issues with tact and diplomacy, ensuring timely responses. Your knowledge of community and industry trends will enable you to craft effective reactive and proactive media strategies.
You will also build and maintain strong relationships with the ministerial office, media representatives, and DCCEEW executives to ensure consistent messaging that supports the Department’s programs and elevates the DCCEEW brand. A positive and proactive attitude will be essential for your success in this role.
Skills and Experience
- Proven experience in media relations, especially in the NSW energy sector.
- Strong understanding of media strategy and engagement.
- Excellent written communication skills with technical knowledge of the energy portfolio.
- Ability to pitch successful media stories.
- Skilled in managing media inquiries, meeting deadlines, and collaborating with teams.
- Willingness to work after hours or be on call when required (including on weekends and public holidays).
Essential Requirements
- Tertiary qualifications in media, journalism or communications or equivalent experience.
- Demonstrated experience in media relations, including contacts with media organisations and an understanding of emergent issues impacting the client group.
