The role
As a Senior Planning Policy Officer within the Housing Taskforce, you will develop, deliver, and evaluate planning policies that drive housing outcomes across NSW. Sitting within the Housing Taskforce, you will play a critical role in dynamically identifying and solving critical problems preventing housing from being delivered. By driving whole-of-government action, you will address impediments to housing completions. You will manage policy projects, conduct research and analysis, and provide strategic advice on emerging planning challenges. The Housing Taskforce

The Housing Taskforce is a multi-agency group within the Department of Planning, Housing and Infrastructure, tasked with maximising housing completions by driving urgent, whole-of-government action to address housing supply and affordability issues.

This unique opportunity offers potential candidates to work across government with government agencies and public authorities such as TfNSW, DCCEEW, Premiers Department and Treasury.

These positions sit within one of the two teams within the Housing Taskforce who focus on making sure housing moves quickly and smoothly through the planning system by:

  • coordinating State agency advice and approvals
  • identifying and working to resolve post-consent delays to housing construction and completion
  • identifying broader system improvements to support housing approvals and completions.

What you will bring to the role:

  • Strong ability to develop and implement planning policy in line with government objectives.
  • Excellent research, analytical, and problem-solving skills to support evidence-based decision-making.
  • Proven stakeholder engagement and collaboration skills to drive policy outcomes.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to translate complex technical information into clear and accessible policy documents.

 

What is an essential requirement?

  • Degree in planning, law, environmental management, engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Sound knowledge of planning legislation, statutory requirements, and policy frameworks in NSW.
