About the role

The Senior Legal Officer roles are suited to experienced lawyers keen to utilise their strong analytical skills and expertise to provide high quality legal advisory services and crucial legal support to clients within Dept of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water (DCCEEW).

As an experienced professional, you will support the Principal Legal Officers, Directors and General Counsel, drive delivery on initiatives and goals and contribute to an inclusive, responsive and effective environment. Our teams work collaboratively in a variety of areas of law with our work impacting millions of people in NSW.

NRAR Legal

The NRAR Legal team advises and acts for the Natural Resources Access Regulator (NSW’s water regulator) across a variety of matters relating to investigation, enforcement and prosecution of breaches of the Water Management Act 2000 and other natural resources management legislation.  This work frequently involves complex litigation in the Local Court and Land and Environment Court, but also touches upon areas such as statutory interpretation, law reform, administrative law, and privacy. We have 2 temporary roles with the possibility for extension or conversion to ongoing in future.

Roadmap and Energy Infrastructure Legal team

The Roadmap and Energy Infrastructure legal team supports the delivery of the Electricity Infrastructure Roadmap – the NSW Government’s plan to transform our electricity system into one that is affordable, clean and reliable for everyone.

The team is responsible for legislative reform, providing legal advice on the NSW and national legislative framework for the energy sector, supporting negotiations with the Commonwealth and other States and providing expert advice on the governance and risk arrangements. This is a talent pool opportunity.
