The role

This role:
- Manage detailed assessment of claimed lands and submit recommendations to the Minister relating to the provisions of the Aboriginal Land Rights Act 1983 (ALRA).
- Provide and oversee high quality and timely advice to the Minister, Crown Lands and other arms of the Department on claims, appeals and related matters.
- Represent the Minister and the Department at public forums relating to Aboriginal land claim matters.
- Develop, monitor, maintain and improve policies, practices and procedures associated with Aboriginal land claim assessment.
- Co-ordinate the Department’s liaison with inter-agency, inter-government and external peak bodies on matters pertaining to Aboriginal land claims.
- Arrange for post claim action to be completed including the survey of granted land (where applicable)and transfer of land to Land Council
What you will bring to the role
- Extensive experience in Aboriginal land rights, native title, or related areas, with a deep understanding of relevant legislation and policies.
- Strong leadership and people management skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate a diverse team.
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills, with the capacity to build and maintain effective relationships with Aboriginal communities and stakeholders.
- Cultural awareness, and respect for Aboriginal peoples' rights and aspirations.
