Our Climate Preparedness team is currently seeking a dedicated and experienced Senior Project Officer to support government entities in managing climate risk and embedding climate adaptation into their operations. This senior role plays a key part in supporting whole-of-government risk governance groups, developing and delivering climate risk management frameworks and learning programmes, and engaging with agencies and senior executives to support climate-related financial disclosures and other non-financial reporting requirements.
The successful candidate will join a proactive and collaborative team, contributing to the design and delivery of innovative projects that shape the future of climate resilience in the public sector. Responsibilities include project and budget management, procurement, and potentially supervising one to two direct reports. This role offers the opportunity to develop cutting-edge advice on climate risk management, adaptation, and transition risk planning, aligned with international standards and the NSW Climate Risk Ready programme. Supporting a diverse mix of entities and a strong culture of collaboration and innovation, this is a unique opportunity to make a meaningful impact across government.
About You
You will be a proactive and solutions-oriented project lead, with a strong ability to manage complex initiatives from inception through to delivery. Drawing on your experience in government or climate-focused environments, you may bring a solid understanding of climate risk management, adaptation planning, and climate-related financial disclosures. Your strategic thinking will enable you to design and implement frameworks and learning programmes that align with international standards and the NSW Climate Risk Ready programme. You will be confident navigating governance structures and engaging with senior executives to embed climate risk effectively across operations.
You will thrive in collaborative environments, building trusted relationships with a wide range of stakeholders and guiding teams towards shared outcomes. Your strong organisational skills will ensure projects are delivered on time and within budget, and you may also lead and support a small team. With excellent communication and influencing skills, you will be able to convey complex ideas clearly and persuasively. Most importantly, you will be passionate about supporting New South Wales in its transition to a more climate-resilient future for both people and place.
