Do you want your work to make a difference for NSW?

Working to protect the state’s environment and heritage.

About the role

We are looking for a Project Officer to join the Goat Island remediation team. This is an excellent opportunity to be part of a small team delivering a significant historic heritage conservation program at a prominent but largely undiscovered location on Sydney Harbour.

The National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) is delivering a major program to repair and remediate built assets on Goat Island to prepare for its transfer to Aboriginal ownership and management. Part of Sydney Harbour National Park, Goat Island is listed on the State Heritage Register for its rich array of Aboriginal, historic and natural heritage values, including over 30 buildings and structures dating from the 1830s to the 1960s.

The NPWS Greater Sydney Branch leads implementation of a range of programs across more than 50 National Parks and reserves including Royal National Park, the second oldest national park in the world, and Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park, the second oldest national park in Australia. Our parks host more than 19 million visits each year and we are delivering a major program to improve visitor infrastructure in key visitor precincts and enhance heritage buildings and places, many of which are listed on the NSW State Heritage Register and/or the National Heritage List.

The role will be based at our NPWS office at Bobbin Head with 1-2 days per week starting/finishing on Goat Island (water transport from Birchgrove).

About You

Your passion for cultural heritage and the environment, coupled with a strong attention to detail and advanced proficiency in project management will be key to your success in this role. You'll be adept in providing high level specialist advice and information to stakeholders on emerging project issues and to support project development and delivery in line with established plans, budgets, timeframes, policy and environmental objectives and other project and priorities.

You will have the ability to prepare tender documents, undertake procurement and manage construction contracts.

Essential Requirements

  • Appropriate tertiary qualifications and/or equivalent relevant working experience in project management.
  • Experience in development and delivery of projects, including the development of project plans, monitoring of project timelines, budgets and reporting requirements, and contract administration.
