About the role

The Team Leader Rangers reports directly to the Area Manager and is regarded a senior management role within the Area having significant influence in achieving conservation and community outcomes.  The Team Leader Rangers must have very strong communication skills to ensure information flow, planning and reporting is accurate, free flowing and timely.

The role is highly diverse which is mainly office based however some field work is required regularly to support your team. The TLR is expected to have a broad understanding of all the Area’s projects and be able to provide high level advice and support to the Rangers who directly report to them as well as the rest of the Area management team and the Branch management team.

The Hawkesbury Nattai Area is part of the Blue Mountains Branch.  The reserves that are managed by the Hawkesbury Nattai Area are within the local government areas of Hawkesbury, Lower Blue Mountains, Wollondilly and Wingecarribee.  The reserves include parts of Wollemi National Park and Blue Mountains National Park, the Nattai Reserves, Thirlmere Lakes National Park, Yellomundee Regional Park and Upper Nepean State Conservation Area.  The Area has three work locations, with depots/offices based at Richmond, Glenbrook and Bargo.   The work delivered by our Area is varied and includes vertebrate pest, weed and fire management programs, and management of walking tracks and visitor areas (including three popular campsites at Wheeny, Burralow and Euroka).  Many of our reserves are jointly managed with WaterNSW with the focus of protecting Sydney’s water catchment.  It’s a great team, interesting work and beautiful reserves.

 

About You

 We are looking for individuals who are passionate about conservation, land management and working collaboratively.  Your project planning skills will be key in juggling and meeting competing priorities, while your ability to motivate and influence your team will be essential to achieving outcomes in a busy and changing environment. To be successful in the role, you will also have:

  • strong leadership, facilitation and negotiation skills
  • the ability to juggle competing priorities to meet deadlines
  • a high attention to detail and great communication skills
  • expert project planning skills and discipline to ensure due process is followed
  • sound IT capabilities, particularly in databases, common MS Office software and some GIS experience
  • industry experience including environmental assessment skills.

 

Essential requirements:

  • Current Australian Class C Drivers licence or equivalent.

 

This is a physically active role suited to candidates of all genders who are fit, enjoy working outdoors as part of a team, and are eager to learn and develop the skills and qualifications needed to contribute toward improving and maintaining some of NSW’s most precious natural places.  Applicants must meet the requirements of a firefighting medical which is inclusive of a clearance to undertake frontline firefighting roles. The applicant must pass the task based fitness assessment to a moderate level within the probationary period (up to 12 months) and annually thereafter.

The role holder must obtain certification at the appropriate level prior to undertaking firefighting/incident control duties.
