- Salary relative to experience and ranges from $125,693 to $138,510 + super
The role
You’ll play a key leadership role in keeping the Botanic Gardens and surrounding Trust Lands safe, secure, and running smoothly. Based at the Royal Botanic Garden Sydney, you’ll oversee the day-to-day operations of Ranger Services across all sites—including Mt Annan and Mt Tomah—and support a team of Site Coordinators in delivering compliant, high-quality, and consistent safety and security services. That includes everything from overseeing contracts, security systems and CCTV, to providing sound advice on legislation, regulation, and compliance.
You’ll work closely with external providers and agencies like NSW Police, Revenue NSW and Service NSW, while managing Rangers, reviewing performance, interpreting legislation and ensuring our rules are followed. Your sharp judgment, calm leadership and ability to interpret policies and regulations will be key to balancing operational needs with visitor safety, asset protection, and regulatory compliance across a complex, high-profile portfolio.

What you will bring to the role
- Proven leadership experience in a regulatory, compliance, security or Ranger Services environment, with the ability to coach and support teams across multiple sites.
- Strong working knowledge of legislation, regulation and policy, with the ability to interpret and apply rules in complex or sensitive situations.
- A track record of managing external service providers and contractors, including performance oversight, contract compliance, and service delivery.
- Confident in liaising with external stakeholders such as police, government agencies and local communities, with excellent interpersonal and negotiation skills.
- Experience managing safety and security systems including CCTV, access control, and electronic key systems.
- Strong organisational and planning skills, with the ability to juggle competing priorities and contribute to operational and capital works improvements.
- A current driver's licence and willingness to travel between Sydney, Mount Annan and Mount Tomah as needed.
- A practical, solutions-focused mindset and a genuine commitment to protecting people, assets and the living collections of the Trust Lands.
What is an essential requirement:
*If not already held, the following must be satisfactorily obtained within the first 6 months of employment. The only exceptions are Driver’s License which you must already have.
- Current NSW Security Licence Class 1A/C.
- Current drivers’ licence (with ability to operate manual vehicles).
- Current First Aid (HLTAID003) qualification or equivalent.
- Current RSA
- Current White Card NSW
- Current Blue Card – Traffic Control
- Current Yellow Card – Implement Traffic Control Plans
- Ability to provide site Rangers with support and advise on weekends and outside of normal working hours.
