About the Energy Corporation of NSW

The Energy Corporation of NSW (EnergyCo) is the statutory authority responsible for leading the delivery of Renewable Energy Zones (REZs) and Priority Transmission Infrastructure Projects (PTIPs) across NSW as part of the NSW Government’s Electricity Infrastructure Roadmap. The Roadmap is NSW’s plan to transition our electricity systems away from a reliance on fossil fuels to a clean, reliable and affordable energy future and seeks to have in place 12GW of renewable energy with 2GW of long-term storage by 2030.

EnergyCo has been appointed as the infrastructure planner, coordinating investment in transmission, generation and storage in REZs. This includes:

  • fostering local community support through engagement and benefit sharing initiatives
  • undertaking planning and technical studies
  • procuring network operators to build and own the new transmission infrastructure
  • administering the Transmission Acceleration Facility
  • designing and administering access schemes for generation and storage projects
  • securing relevant regulatory approvals and land
  • coordinating relevant infrastructure delivery.

 

EnergyCo Board

The EnergyCo Board is the governing board established under the Electricity and Utilities Administration Act 1987. The Board has responsibility for ensuring EnergyCo delivers on its commitments and functions and oversees the management and organisational affairs of EnergyCo.

The Board consists of 3-8 Board Members appointed by the Minister for Energy. We are now seeking to appoint up to two new Board Members.

 

Assessment Criteria

The Department of Climate Change, the Environment and Water is seeking Expressions of Interest from candidates with expert industry, technical and governance skills.

Candidates must demonstrate expertise in the following areas:

  • Prior experience in senior executive or Board director roles 
  • Strategic leadership and developing an organisation’s strategic agenda

In addition, expertise and experience in two or more of the following areas would also be desirable:

  • High voltage electricity transmission systems - particularly desirable for one of the two vacant roles
  • Energy sector – policy, technical, commercial, communications
  • Development, investment in, and delivery of major infrastructure projects
  • Commercial investment and project finance
  • Community engagement
  • First Nations engagement
  • Design and administration of grants schemes
  • Consumer advocacy
  • Government regulation and policy
  • Major infrastructure planning and approval processes
  • Regional development
  • Governance and oversight of financial activities
  • Audit and risk management
  • Human resource management
  • Legal

Remuneration and Time Commitment

Board Members support the Chairperson by setting EnergyCo’s strategic direction and developing and overseeing EnergyCo’s operating and governance structures.

Board Members:

  • have a term of up to three-years
  • receive an annual remuneration of up to $80,000.

Board Members will require a minimum time commitment of at least 10 sitting days per annum, with out-of-session meetings as necessary from time to time, as well as preparation time.
