The role
Are you passionate about bringing history and culture to life for young minds? As an Education Guide, you’ll deliver engaging, curriculum-linked programs and tours for primary and secondary students in our precincts including The Rocks and Darling Harbour. You’ll help create memorable learning experiences that connect students with Sydney’s rich heritage through interactive storytelling and hands-on activities.
This role also includes front-of-house responsibilities, providing warm and informative customer service to visitors. You’ll be part of a team that values enthusiasm, adaptability, and a genuine love for sharing knowledge in a dynamic environment where no two days are the same.
You must be available to work weekends and public holidays when required. A minimum 3-day (including Saturday and Sunday) availability per week is required.

What you will bring to the role
- Experience in education or program delivery for primary and/or secondary students
- Ability to deliver engaging, interactive learning experiences linked to curriculum outcomes
- Strong communication and customer service skills
- Physical fitness to manage standing, bending, and active presentation styles
- Self-management and punctuality, with flexibility to adapt to changing needs of schools and groups
- Enthusiasm for Sydney’s history and current events
- Basic computer skills including Teams and Microsoft suite
- Confidence in basic administrative tasks and processing online bookings
Essential requirements
- A current Working with Children Check (WWCC) is an essential requirement for this role. The role has been identified as requiring this check in line with the Child Protection (Working With Children) Act 2012.
About us
Placemaking NSW is responsible for managing and caring for some of Sydney’s most iconic harbourside venues and locations, including The Rocks, Barangaroo, Darling Harbour and White Bay Power Station. We also lead the planning and delivery of the Bays West Urban Renewal Precinct, a state significant project that will bring new homes, jobs, and public spaces to 77 hectares of government-owned land just 2 kilometres from Sydney's CBD.
