  • Play a pivotal role in driving industry decarbonisation and innovation policy to accelerate NSW’s transition to net zero emissions. 
  • Ongoing and Temporary opportunities (until January 2027) with potential to converting to ongoing  
  • Full time (35 hours per week) – flexible working available  
  • Office location - Parramatta, hybrid working supported 
  • Environment Officer Class 10 - Salary relative to experience, and ranges from $134,421 to $148,239 + super 

 

The Business and Industry Decarbonisation Division leads initiatives to reduce carbon emissions of NSW across high-emitting and hard-to-abate sectors including built environment, land and primary industries, manufacturing, mining and heavy transport.  

 
We are responsible for strategic delivery of policies, projects and programs to drive uptake of low-emission technologies and practices, facilitate investment in decarbonisation and new low-emission industries, and demonstrate the benefits of low-carbon practices across these sectors. 

 

Our Industry, Policy and Engagement Branch is currently seeking to appoint 2 x Senior Policy Officer, Programs to drive high-impact policy and shape strategic decision-making to support industry decarbonisation. Responsible for leading complex projects and delivering expert policy and legislative advice – you will be supporting NSW’s transition to a net zero future! 

 

Role 1: Senior Policy Officer, Programs (Decarbonisation Innovation Policy team) Temporary through to Jan 2027 (with potential for extension/convert to ongoing) 

The Decarbonisation Innovation Policy team leads cross-government and market engagement, policy advice and strategy development relating to decarbonisation innovation. We support the decarbonisation ecosystem and the research, development and commercialisation of decarbonising technology solutions needed for industry to transition to net zero. 

 

This role is responsible for leading end-to-end project management and policy development across a range of initiatives, with a focus on decarbonisation skills and training and growing the decarbonisation innovation ecosystem. It involves developing and implementing project plans, managing budgets and risks, and ensuring timely delivery of outcomes aligned with agency standards. 

 

The position provides high-level policy advice on a range of decarbonisation innovation issues, prepares Ministerial and executive briefings, and supports evidence-based decision-making. Strong stakeholder engagement, communication, and analytical skills are essential to drive continuous improvement and deliver impactful results. 

 

Role 2: Senior Policy Officer, Programs role 2 (Industry Decarbonisation Policy team) Ongoing 

The Industry Decarbonisation Policy team leads cross-government and market engagement, policy advice and strategy development relating to industrial decarbonisation. We support the transition to net zero for the high-emitting manufacturing and mining sectors to reduce carbon emissions and foster economic growth. 

 

This role is responsible for leading end-to-end project management and policy development across a range of initiatives, with a focus on industrial decarbonisation. It involves developing and implementing project plans, managing budgets and risks, and ensuring timely delivery of outcomes aligned with agency standards. 

 

The position provides high-level policy advice on a range of industry decarbonisation issues, prepares Ministerial and executive briefings, and supports evidence-based decision-making. Strong stakeholder engagement, written and verbal communication, and analytical skills are essential to drive continuous improvement and deliver impactful results. 

 

About you 

We are looking for someone:

  • To bring their strong policy experience, from within the NSW Government or similar organisation.
  • Experienced as a strategic thinker, able to develop ideas to solve complex policy problems.
  • Who has experience engaging with a range of stakeholders with differing perspectives. 
  • Who has a degree in a relevant discipline or equivalent relevant experience.
