  • Salary relative to experience, and ranges from $129,464 to $142,665 + super

 

The Senior Strategic Advisor plays a key role in delivering insights, advice and strategic financial support for the Department. You’ll dive into complex financial information, lead strategic projects, and prepare high-quality analysis and communications that support better decision-making for the Office of the Chief Financial Officer and senior executives. This role is trusted to work independently, operate with integrity, and provide clear, well-reasoned advice in a fast-paced environment with competing priorities.

You’ll work closely with leaders across Finance to understand business context,  and drive a culture of continuous improvement. Managing tight deadlines, simplifying complex issues, and balancing competing demands will come naturally to you as you deliver high-impact work that strengthens the Department’s financial performance and supports high-quality outcomes for our stakeholders.

What you will bring to the role:

  • Advanced analytical skills with the ability to pressure test and interpret financial information, identify trends, assess risks and prepare high-impact advice and briefings for senior executives.
  • Confidence managing competing and short deadlines while maintaining accuracy, impartiality, professionalism and confidentiality.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to translate complex financial concepts into plain English for a variety of audiences.
  • Proven ability to influence, negotiate and build strong, collaborative relationships with stakeholders across all levels.
  • High levels of self-management, initiative and professional integrity, with a commitment to continuous learning and improvement.
  • Manage strategic financial project delivery, including research, design, and development, with ongoing compliance for better business processes to capture/use information in partnership with the team and other stakeholders.
  • Sound understanding of financial processes, accounting standards and public sector financial requirements, supported by relevant tertiary qualifications or equivalent experience.

 

Essential requirements

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications with membership to a recognised professional accounting organisation such as CPA Australia or similar, or eligibility for membership and a commitment to progression accordingly, or extensive relevant experience.
