The Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment & Water (DCCEEW) are looking for a Senior Ethics Officer to join the team!
About the role
As a Senior Ethics Officer, you will play a key role in supporting the department’s ethical, compliant and transparent operations. You’ll deliver expert integrity‑related advice across the organisation, with a particular focus on conflicts of interest, complaints and ethical decision‑making.
Working within the Audit & Ethics team, you’ll research and analyse complex ethical issues, guide staff and leaders through integrity considerations, and contribute to the continued uplift of ethics frameworks and practices across the department.
What you’ll do
- Provide expert, timely advice on ethics and integrity matters—including probity, conflict of interest, complaint handling and emerging ethical risks.
- Draft responses to received complaints in consultation with relevant business areas.
- Prepare, review and improve ethics‑related procedures, documentation and guidance.
- Manage multiple matters simultaneously, reprioritising effectively to meet tight deadlines in a fast‑paced environment.
- Build trusted relationships with stakeholders across DCCEEW and other NSW Government agencies.
- Prepare high‑quality reports and correspondence to support decision‑making and performance reporting.
- Support the implementation and monitoring of ethics compliance strategies across the department.
What we’re looking for
You’re someone who brings:
- Experience providing integrity‑related advice, ideally with exposure to probity, conflicts of interest, ethical risk or corporate governance.
- Exceptional attention to detail and the ability to communicate complex issues clearly in writing.
- Strong conflict and complaint management skills, with a calm and composed approach in challenging situations.
- Excellent prioritisation and organisational skills, capable of managing multiple issues concurrently.
- The confidence to provide honest advice, challenge assumptions and uphold ethical standards.
