 We are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Executive Planner Officer to join our Planning, Land Use Strategy, Housing and Infrastructure Planning team at the Department of Planning, Housing and Infrastructure to provide Machinery of Government and governance expertise, and high-level executive advice and business management support services to the Deputy Secretary PLUSHI.

 This is an exciting and unique opportunity to get a birds-eye view of one of the key areas of the Department of Planning, Housing and Infrastructure, and work with the Deputy Secretary and senior leaders across PLUSHI to support delivery against the Minster and Secretaries’ priorities.

 About the role

You will provide key support to the Deputy Secretary, assisting in achieving strategic and operational strategies in line with Department and Government objectives. You will coordinate, prepare, review, and edit briefings, strategic advice, reports, Ministerial briefing notes, and other key documents, and have a strong ability to translate technical and complex information quickly.

You will need to enjoy working in an environment of competing and high-volume priorities, and have the ability to:

  • manage key Government protocols and procedures, including Cabinet, GIPAs, and inter-government protocols and processes
  • anticipate, manage, and prioritise major contentious and sensitive matters within tight timeframes
  • utilise their technical planning background to offer strategic counsel to the Deputy Secretary to ensuring strong, fair, and quick decision-making
  • prepare documents and advice in plain English
  • anticipate and manage large volumes of correspondence, reports, Cabinet submissions and briefing notes within tight timeframes
  • quickly develop and maintain relationships with key stakeholders (Parliamentary and Government Services team, Office of the Secretary, Communications team)
  • work with Executive Directors and teams across PLUSHI and the wider Planning Group to ensure the Office of the Deputy Secretary is supported to manage and deliver on department and government priorities
  • assist in the development and implementation of internal systems, projects, and programs.

Additionally, you will have the opportunity to attend meetings with the Deputy Secretary, providing the unique ability to gain direct insights into high-level decision-making processes, contribute to strategic discussions, and influence key planning and policy decisions.

What you will bring to the role

  • Demonstrated knowledge of and working experience at a senior level with core Government protocols and procedures, including Cabinet, GIPA, parliamentary protocols and processes
  • Proven experience in providing technical executive support for effective decision-making.
  • Strong research and analytical skills to inform policy and planning decisions.
  • Demonstrated strategic thinking, adaptability, and the ability to work independently while taking initiative.
  • A proactive approach and the ability to juggle multiple competing demands.

 

What is an essential requirement:

  • Degree qualification in planning or a related discipline, and/or relevant experience working within a Government agency/department environment at a more senior level.
