The role

The role provides hands‑on technical leadership across the Department’s hosting and data centre infrastructure, making sure systems are secure, resilient and future‑ready. It involves designing and managing complex environments, resolving issues quickly, planning for capacity, guiding disaster recovery, and communicating technical matters in a clear, practical way for people at all levels. You’ll also be working with the latest technologies as you help lead the Department’s final transition to cloud.

 

About you

We’re looking for someone with extensive experience supporting complex, geographically dispersed data centres—especially across Active Directory, HP server and storage platforms, NetApp Select and Keystone, VMware, Azure VMware Service, AWS and Microsoft Azure. You’ll bring deep technical capability, strong problem‑solving skills, and the ability to mentor junior team members while leading a small, high‑performing group. If you enjoy shaping infrastructure strategy, managing vendors, staying ahead of emerging technologies, and keeping services running smoothly for diverse users in varied locations, this role will suit you well!

 

Key knowledge and experience

  • Extensive experience working in highly technical ICT environments with a focus on public/private cloud hosting, security, and/or cloud engineering.
  • Experience leading a team to develop and deliver cloud solutions for customer compute and ICT storage problems in a cost constrained environment.
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills proven in project delivery in a busy workplace.

 

Essential requirements

  • Relevant experience or tertiary qualification in computer science or related field and/or recognised industry certifications.
