  • Senior Floodplain Officer (Environment Officer Class 9)
  • Temporary (Up to Date 31 August 2027) full-time (35 hours per week) opportunity with possibility of ongoing employment
  • Office location is Newcastle or Gosford/Hybrid working supported
  • Salary relative to experience, and ranges from $124,322 to $138,494 + super

 

 

Our Hunter Central Coast Water Floodplains & Coast team is currently seeking to appoint a Senior Floodplain Officer to provide technical and policy advice to councils and internal and external stakeholders in the effective management of flood risks through floodplain programs and for the development and implementation of strategic flood risk management plans in accordance with NSW Government policies and guidelines.

 

About You

To be successful in this role, you will have experience in the following:

  • Contributing to the development, implementation and review of floodplain strategies, policies and frameworks aligned with government and corporate objectives.
  • Supporting councils in delivering floodplain management projects through scoping, planning, implementation and ongoing management, providing expert technical advice as required.
  • Reviewing and assessing technical studies and project outputs to ensure quality, effective monitoring and successful outcomes.
  • Providing technical support to councils in securing state government funding, including providing input into funding applications.
  • Assessing State Significant Developments and Planning Proposals and providing flood risk advice in line with the NSW Flood Risk Management framework.
  • Preparing reports and briefings, building strong stakeholder relationships, and representing floodplain management interests across forums and committees.
  • An understanding of floodplain risk assessment methods and floodplain management strategies.
  • Developing partnerships and delivering advice to multiple stakeholders and communities.

 

Essential requirements

  • Appropriate degree level tertiary qualifications in engineering, geomorphology, environmental science, natural resource management or related discipline.
  • Current NSW Driver’s Licence as the role requires travel.
