The opportunity
The NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) website is one of the most visited NSW government websites. A complex site, it communicates information about visiting national parks and conservation alongside e-commerce and B2B functions.
NPWS is embarking on a major website and app renewal program to modernise our public facing digital experience and the technology that supports it. You will lead a complex, multiyear program that spans strategy, options analysis, procurement and delivery—working closely with Park Operations, Digital, IT, and Corporate Affairs to uplift the customer experience across the NPWS website and app.
What you’ll do:
As Principal Project Manager, you will:
- Lead end-to-end program planning and delivery for the website and app renewal—from discovery and options analysis through procurement and implementation—ensuring scope, time, quality and benefits are realised.
- Establish robust governance, risk and benefits frameworks; oversee integrated schedules, budget controls, and stage gates.
- Coordinate internal SMEs across Park Operations, Digital, Content, Architecture, Cyber and Infrastructure; champion customer centred design and accessibility.
- Lead structured vendor engagement and contract management in line with NSW Government procurement policies and systems.
- Translate research and options analysis into a clear, costed strategy and implementation roadmap, brief executives and steer decision forums.
About you:
You are a seasoned program/project leader who can set direction, bring people with you, and deliver measurable outcomes in a complex, stakeholder rich environment. Specifically, you will demonstrate:
- Deep experience delivering digital transformation initiatives—ideally website and CMS/platform renewals or migrations—using Agile or hybrid methods.
- Proven track record leading options analysis and business casing and converting insights into executable roadmaps.
- Strong vendor management and government procurement experience (RFTs, evaluation, onboarding, performance).
- Excellent stakeholder engagement across technical and non‑technical groups; clear, concise executive communication.
- Commitment to customer centred design, accessibility and inclusive services.
Ideally, we’re looking for someone who has:
- Tertiary qualifications and/or equivalent experience in project/program management, information systems or a related discipline.
- Demonstrated success leading complex digital programs in large organisations, including governance, budget, risk and benefits management.
- Experience working within NSW Government (or comparable public sector) frameworks and procurement processes.
Familiarity with contemporary web/CMS platforms and patterns, exposure to Sitecore or comparable enterprise CMS, and relevant certifications (e.g., PRINCE2, MSP, Agile, Prosci) would also be ideal.
What’s in it for you
- Purpose driven work improving citizen experiences for millions of park visitors.
- Flexible, hybrid work with supportive, inclusive culture and strong executive sponsorship.
