About the Role
The National Parks and Wildlife Service is seeking an enthusiastic and driven Environmental Health Officer to join our close-knit, high-performing team dedicated to delivering vital public health and safety services in the iconic Kosciuszko National Park.
This role is integral to maintaining the health and wellbeing of visitors and residents primarily in the NSW alpine ski resort areas located in Kosciuszko National Park. You will provide essential administrative, advisory, regulatory, and compliance services to ensure public health is safeguarded in line with NSW legislation and Department policy.
Key responsibilities include conducting essential compliance inspections and preparing detailed reports on food safety, potable water, pool/spa inspections, and underground petroleum storage systems, as well as leading educational programs to drive regulatory adherence. You will also be at the forefront of investigating environmental health issues such as pollution incident investigations, public complaints, notifiable diseases, and foodborne or waterborne outbreaks, ensuring quick and effective responses to any public health risks.
This exciting opportunity allows you to contribute to maintaining the highest health standards within Kosciuszko National Park, ensuring compliance with key legislation, and promoting a healthier environment for both the public and local stakeholders.
About You
We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive candidate with a strong background in food safety, public health, regulatory compliance, and environmental health practices. Your passion for ensuring public safety, combined with your ability to manage complex inspections and investigations, will be key to your success in this role.
You will have a solid understanding of relevant NSW legislation and public health policies, and you will excel in conducting compliance inspections, preparing detailed reports, and driving educational initiatives for stakeholders. Your ability to investigate environmental health issues and respond effectively to public complaints, outbreaks, or health risks will be crucial.
Strong communication skills will be essential, as you will be advising and educating a range of stakeholders, from resort lessees to state agencies. Your capability in managing multiple priorities, ensuring regulatory adherence, and maintaining meticulous records will be vital for maintaining high health standards within the Alpine ski resort areas.
Essential Requirements
- Bachelor of Applied Science (Environmental Health) or equivalent qualifications and/or equivalent experience.
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience undertaking environmental health related inspections and ability and willingness to apply enforcement action.
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience in developing, interpretation and implementing public health and environmental monitoring and reporting programs including programs dealing with matters such as water quality; food; public swimming pools and spa pools; pollution control; and environment protection.
- Current Australian Class C drivers licence, and an over-snow driver licence, with experience in the use of snowmobile and driving under snow and ice conditions, or the ability to acquire such skills and licence.
