About the role
National Parks and Wildlife Service has a unique temporary opportunity for an Archaeologist to work as part of the business unit who contribute towards the conservation of the natural environment, flora, fauna and Aboriginal heritage.
You will be responsible for providing technical cultural heritage interpretation, research and advice in response to NPWS needs, project management, field work and client liaison. You will collaborate with the NPWS Aboriginal Partnerships and Heritage Unit, external and internal stakeholders. This is a technical position providing Aboriginal cultural heritage and archaeological input into environmental impact assessments, Aboriginal Heritage Impact Permits (AHIP), conservation works and monitoring programs for NPWS.
About You
We are looking for individuals who are passionate and experienced in undertaking Aboriginal cultural heritage assessments, ensuring Aboriginal heritage values are identified and adequate strategies exist to minimise impacts on Aboriginal places and cultural assets of significance to Aboriginal people. You will contribute to the development, delivery and review of projects within the Branch; oversee the day-to-day operations of individual projects and where directed, supervise assigned staff and contractors.
Essential requirements
- Bachelor degree with honours (or equivalent) in archaeological or cultural heritage and minimum two years full time experience in Australian Aboriginal archaeology.
- Ability to work outdoors in field locations is essential, including a willingness to travel to locations throughout the North Coast Branch for periods of time.
- Current Driver’s Licence and ability to operate four-wheel-drive vehicles.
